Vitreous Haemorrhage is bleeding in the vitreous humour of the eye. Important causes of vitreous haemorrhage are retinal tear, retinal detachment, proliferative diabetic retinopathy, wet macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion, retinal artery macroaneurysm from high blood pressure, and trauma.

Some vitreous haemorrhages may clear on their own and so a period of waiting and close observation may be done at first. If a retinal tear or retinal detachment is suspected, surgery to remove the vitreous humour and blood (vitrectomy) should be carried out urgently.
